Description

The Cook County Treasurer oversees the county’s property tax collection and distribution system, and is responsible for the administration of taxes, including the collection and distribution of funds. The county treasurer must also maintain an investment strategy for public funds that is that provides a return on investments but is not risky. The Cook County Treasurer must receive and safely keep the revenues and other public funds of the County and all money and funds authorized by law to be paid to her and disburse the same pursuant to law. The Cook County Treasurer must file regular reports with the President of the County Board to summarize the financial status of their office, and the treasurer is also responsible for overseeing the process of refunds for overpayment of taxes.

To run for this position you must contact the County Clerk's Elections Division in which you reside, or the Illinois State Board of Elections. Be aware that the filing window is typically only one week long, however the period for circulating petitions for signatures and preparing your paperwork is much longer (typically 90 days).
